Welcome to ‘Rocco Academy’

YNOT EUROPE – Rocco Siffredi needs no introduction. Italy is renowned for exporting beautiful, sensual porn stars, and he is at the top of his field.
YNOT Europe was able to exchange a few words with him, and we can say without fear of contradiction that he is down to earth, friendly and polite. Especially impressive is Siffredi’s openness. Even after a career of more than 20 years in porn, this is a man who knows what he wants and what he wants to create, and he’s not afraid to share his thoughts.
And what are those thoughts? Let’s find out together.
YNOT Europe: First of all, congratulations on receiving the AVN Award for Best Foreign Actor. You’ve done a lot of winning in your career, both as actor and director, and you’ve had some impressive nominations, including for Hot d’Or Awards. Do you ever get used to winning awards? How was it this time?
Rocco Siffredi: I have to say the truth is that there is no better feeling, because if you get used to it…. [Laughs.] At least for me, the thrill is always there. Anyone who is accustomed to winning will quit trying harder. There was a time when I was in a quandary, 1990 to 2000, in which I won for seven years in a row. All they had to do was say “Rocco Siffredi,” and there was cheering. Then I realized that life as an actor is not a question of time, but of passion. If you continue to give, the audience reacts accordingly.
After many years of career and success, you’re practically one of the pillars of this industry. Do you think there are new places to go, new sectors that have not been explored in the world of the adult entertainment? Take, for example, 2010: the year of the parody.
For me, when I look at this type of remake, I realize that people are not always inventive. Axel Braun, I have to compliment him. He is a good director. But when it comes to sexuality research, that is the reason the majority of people watch porn. The sensations that in everyday life are pure fantasy for 99.9 percent of people are not suppressed in porn. It’s uncomplicated communication.
Let me give you an example. The thing that excites me most in my job is meeting people who tell me, “Rocco, thanks to you I am released.” “From what?” I ask. “Because you did something once in your movie, which I in my normal life saw as a problem. Seeing that you were doing it and you enjoyed it like crazy, I did not feel wrong.” Well, after that I opened up a world. We all live with frustrations, and a well-made porn should be a means to get rid of them.
In Italy, you are the best known and most loved male porn star. In fact, there is no porn fan anywhere in the world who hasn’t heard of Rocco Siffredi. How do you live the relationship with your fans?
The relationship with the fans is always great. Even after 25 years, I get compliments. The classic question is, “You fuck for a living?” [Laughs.]
You are one of the few Italian artists, X-rated and mainstream, who has a big presence on the internet: website, blogs and a YouTube channel. How did you get so involved?
The YouTube channel was created from an idea and became a very different reality. I wanted to try to make a sort of — [laughs] — “Rocco Academy” that would teach this work to anyone. So I turned to various television networks that, unfortunately, for various reasons always had problems. I said to myself, “I must create my own channel, create Rocco on the web in order to get where I want to go. Not only that, but also show a little of my life to my fans. In short, when you buy a Rocco Siffredi film, you do not see everything. So I put “extras” in the online channel, at first cute and funny, and it seemed like a good way to bring the fans closer.
Tell us more about “Rocco Academy.”
Through this channel, I’m trying to create a school of porn. Although this is not the right time [for such a project], because porn has become [less glamorous]. We are the last wave. The actors are gone, not physically, but because normal people have become the stars. The ones making money on the hard sites are the unknowns [amateurs]. So the real art of porn has unfortunately suffered incredible damage. Producers can no longer produce films at a certain level.
But even if we return to filmmaking as it used to be, in my opinion we’ll still be lacking the minimum education. Not really formal schooling, but mentorship from someone who by virtue of being on the set and working on his craft, can give some advice without being presumptuous.
Do you think the Italian adult entertainment industry exploits the internet well?
Basically, I do not watch what others do, but from what I hear, the lack of Italian presence on the web is due to a lack of funds. Many players are without work. Despite the [economic] crisis, my best move was to get back in front of the camera. Many professionals are so, so tired.
But it is also how you feel about yourself. At 46, I think young.
There were rumors in the U.S. that you are working on a project with Chi Chi La Rue. What can we expect from Rocco Siffredi in 2011?
[Laughs.] I presented an AVN Award with Chi Chi La Rue, and we made a joke that was pure fantasy. In fact, the real project is to widen the channel “Rocco’s World” with material from my own productions and open the way for “Rocco Academy.” There is a possibility that John Stagliano will produce “Rocco Academy.” If the deal happens, we could start as early as the spring, but we will see. It depends what they want. The next project is always going to be the best film ever.
