YNOT EUROPE – Luxembourg-based lubricant manufacturer pjur group recently returned from VIII Gay Games 2010, an international event that took place in Cologne, Germany, 31 July through 7 Aug. Serving as one of the main corporate sponsors of the event was rewarding in many ways, company representatives said.

The gay and lesbian market represents a key group of customers for pjur’s core products. From the beginning, the GLBTI community chose pjur Original as a preferred silicone lubricant. Fifteen years later, the community has remained loyal to the product.

pjur values the relationship with the community and worked to develop new products specifically designed to meet GLBTI needs and desires. The company introduced the pjur Man series more than two years ago and continues to find success in the gay male market with the product. pjur Original remains the top-seller, but newer products like pjur Backdoor Glide & Spray and pjur Power have found legions of true fans, a spokesman said.

For the Gay Games in Cologne, pjur supplied the 12,000 lanyards worn by each athlete and volunteer, more than 20,000 product samples that were distributed to the local shops along with banners, posters and pjur products. Titan Media performer Alex Barresi teamed up with pjur staff and distributed pjur Original sachet cards and condoms as giveaways to passersby. Barresi also took centre stage at the wrestling competition, where he awarded prizes to winners.

“We are very thankful for pjur’s support of the Eighth Gay Games Cologne 2010,” Gay Games Marketing Director Ingo Toenges said. “Without the commitment and support provided by companies like pjur, we wouldn’t have been able to finance the Gay Games in Cologne. We hope that pjur will continue to show its commitment to events in the gay-lesbian community in the future and thus serve as a positive role model for other companies.”

pjur Group Chief Operating Officer David Newnham added, “pjur was delighted to contribute to the experience of 10,000 participants from over 70 countries around the world. We have a long history of supporting the gay community and are very proud to be a part of this great success.”

The Gay Games is the largest sporting and cultural event of its kind worldwide. The organization’s motto — “Be part of it!” — encourages everyone to participate regardless of sexual orientation, religion, nationality, ethnic origin, political convictions, athletic prowess, physical capabilities, age and health status.
