Social networks to be Studied at Madrid University
YNOT EUROPE – The importance of social networks in the field of marketing and communication is no longer anecdotal. Indeed, the subject recently has come under extensive study and analysis. This is evidenced by the Polytechnic University of Madrid’s announcement that a new official course called “Science of Networks” is to be offered within the curriculum of the School of Telecommunications Engineers.
The course will include the latest in content related to the internet phenomenon of social networking, especially in the areas of analysis and research.
“The Chair Orange-UPM is committed to leading the implementation of the Science of Networks, as well as analysis techniques based on social networks, formal university training and the development of innovation projects,” according to a statement from the university.
The announcement may be a first step toward the study of social networks on a widespread basis within the university. Once the reality of the depth to which social networking has affected Spanish society is known, course offerings most likely will expand.
One thing to note is that, according to the World Internet Users website, 80 percent of internet users in Spain belong to some social network, and of those, approximately 60 percent interact with their online social network daily.
