Jean Marc Barr Directs Explicit Mainstream Film
YNOT EUROPE – Still hailed for his starring role in the 1988 cult film Le Grand Bleu (The Big Blue) by Luc Besson, French actor Jean Marc Barr has branched out. Together with Pascal Arnold he is producing and directing a very hot film with an explicit title. Yet Barr calls Chroniques sexuelles d’une famille française d’aujourd’hui (Sex Chronicles of a French Family) “anti-porn,” because the film depicts sexual activity as natural and “real,” instead of fantasy.
Barr said he cast unknown players aged 18 to 60 “who love the camera” in order to create authenticity: a slice of life showing the antics of three generations of one family.
“This film is an anti-porn with anonymous actors who really make love,” he said. “Its goal is to make an alternative proposal to the porn industry, which dominates 90 percent of the cinematic representation of sexuality. [But in porn,] the image of the woman is tarnished. It’s so rare to see in the movies or on TV something that looks like a real sex life.”
Barr said he has no intention of crusading against adult entertainment, but he wanted to film something different, something genuine. The key, he said, is to know where to place the boundary between real sex and pornography.
Chroniques sexuelles d’une famille française d’aujourd’hui is expected to hit screens later this year.
