YNOT EUROPE – An international manhunt involving hundreds of police on two continents came to an end Monday when a gay webcam performer and rentboy who is suspected of a grisly Canadian murder was arrested at an internet café in Berlin.

Luka Rocco Magnotta, born Eric Clinton Newman and dubbed the “Canadian Psycho” in the press, was the subject of an Interpol warrant circulated in 190 countries. He is accused of killing a gay lover in Montreal, then dismembering the body, mailing portions to Canadian politicians and leaving the torso in a suitcase on a garbage dump outside his apartment building … after allegedly eating some of the remains. Magnotta reportedly videotaped himself stabbing his naked, bound victim with an ice pick and having sex with the corpse. Then he allegedly added music from the film American Psycho and posted the finished product on the web.

Canadian authorities believe Magnotta, 29, murdered Chinese university student Jun Lin, 33, May 24 or 25. After disposing of the body, he allegedly disguised himself as a woman and fled the country on May 26, spending a couple of days in Paris with gay men he met in bars before taking a bus to Germany Friday night. Police said they were able to track his mobile phone in order to follow his path.

According to police, a midday raid on the café in a part of the city known for gay bars and sex clubs netted Magnotta without resistance. Armed officers pinned the suspect to the ground near a computer terminal where he was reading online articles about himself, according to eyewitness reports. Police said Magnotta evidently enjoyed his notoriety.

Magnotta, who also used the name Vladimir Romanov and posted to his website in Russian and Arabic, faces charges including murder, defiling a corpse, threatening the Canadian prime minister and using the mail system for delivering “obscene, indecent, immoral or scurrilous” material.
