Artist Sandra Torralba Draws on Porn to Challenge Paradigms
YNOT EUROPE – Spanish artist and actress Sandra Torralba’s newest work is an exhibition called “Estranged Sex.” In the collection of images, video and text, Torralba attempts a broad and holistic presentation of sexuality and sex while at the same time meditating on the ironies implicit in human relationships. She makes frequent cameos in the visual materials.
According to Torralba, her work highlights the many faces of sexuality and must be understood as a “psychosocial and biological entity”; hence, the artist draws upon a variety of classic pornography tropes.
Torralba seeks to provoke a reaction to sexuality in the twin contexts of freedom and struggle for identity. Estranged Sex “employs sexual taboos, the deconstruction of pornography and the naturalization of what is human,” she said.
Her website offers excerpts from the exhibit.
