‘Welcome to the World of Sex’
YNOT EUROPE – AIDES, a French advocacy association working to stop the spread of HIV-AIDS, continues to modernize its information campaigns to encourage people to use condoms consistently during sex.
In recent decades, the association sought to offend the sensibilities with shock campaigns incorporating realistic and poignant images often hidden from the public. Now, the organization has taken a new tack with a public awareness campaign that delivers an effective message wrapped in a fun package.
The association’s new advertisement, “Welcome to the World of Sex,” invites viewers to travel in a large virtual amusement park devoted to all kinds of sex. Take a trip up “Boob Mountain” or ride the “Fuck Wheel,” but never forget to slip on a condom. The public service announcement is uncommonly effective: Instead of attempting to scare viewers about the dangers of unprotected sex, instead it presents protected sex as a pleasant experience.
Directed by British artist Rod Hunt for the Goodby agency Silverstein & Partners, the 40-second clip makes its point without preaching: “Meet a stranger or get together with a group. There’s always something new to explore…. But remember to always, always use a condom, because the World of Sex is full of both pleasure and risk. The safer you play, the longer you stay.”
