A-la-carte Customers Outspend Traditional Subscribers
YNOT EUROPE – AbbyWinters.com has implemented pay-per-scene pricing to capture sales from transitory traffic. According to a spokesman, the move has shown a surprising benefit: a-la-carte customers outspend traditional subscribers.
“We get a lot of traffic who browse the site for a short time,” said Chief Executive Officer Garion Hall. “Perhaps they liked the clip they saw on a tube site. Instead of asking them to buy a subscription, we allow them to buy single scenes that interest them. Some people don’t want to be locked-in with a subscription.”
Per-scene purchases become part of a user’s “digital locker,” which they may access at any time in perpetuity.
“Storing scenes in the digital locker lets users access content from anywhere at any time,” Hall noted. “That’s very important now; it’s their secret stash. Also, it keeps the users coming back, which allows us to promote additional, related scenes.
“Pay-per-scene members are not treated as second-class citizens,” he continued. “They have access to all the content from [the scenes they purchase]: pictures, videos, even handwritten bios by the models and discussion forums.”
“The additional benefit is we get to unlock value from back-catalogue content,” he added. “Pay-per-scene members are buying shoots from back in 2002, 2003, as well as more recent releases.”
Hall also said statistics indicate per-scene buyers frequently access their stored content and actively seek new material. Their spending patterns are “significantly higher than those allowed by subscription-based sales,” he revealed.
“Of course, affiliates enjoy the increased revenue as well,” he said.
