YNOT EUROPE – In order to help its partners retain members and increase traffic to their mobile websites, Barcelona-based mobile delivery facilitator Spankmo Mobile Services SL has introduced home-screen widgets for Android devices. The mini-applications alert users to content updates at their favorite sites, encouraging repeat visits.

The widgets, which update automatically, display thumbnail images of new content. A safe-for-work option prevents the appearance of explicit content until the user chooses to see it.

“We decided to take a different approach and offer something of value for our sites and their visitors,” said Spankmo co-founder Alan Westenbroek. “Our widgets live on the users’ home screens, offer them real-time updates of content that interests them and have one-tap access to the join page.”

The new widgets will be pushed to site visitors who visit using Android devices. They will be available for worldwide download from the Android Market beginning Sept. 25. The widgets are free. Spankmo will offer a sneak preview during The Barcelona Summit Sept. 21-24.
